Artemio Maldonado Treviño, 86, of Pearsall died on July 30, 2020, at his home. He was born on August 12, 1933, in Pearsall to Blas Trevino and Eulalia Maldonado Trevino.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Yvonne Trevino Gomez, parents, and siblings Luis M. Trevino, Pablo Molina, Manuela Molina, Amelia T. Gonzales and Elida Trevino.
While at Pearsall High School, he was the quarterback for the Mavericks who advanced to the state finals in 1951. He graduated from Pearsall HS in 1953 and went on to become a successful businessman and served in the US Army.
Trevino was married at age 20 to Maria de Jesus Trevino in 1956. Together, they owned and operated Trevino Bros. Grocery Store and Trevino Bros. Lumber Construction for the 26 years. He provided groceries on credit and built and sold homes. He served several years on the City of Pearsall Zoning Board. He founded the A&M Enterprises Furniture and Appliance Store, the A&M Finance Co. and Pearsall Rentals and was in business in Pearsall for 38 years.
Trevino enjoyed working, camping, swimming, friends, boxing and traveling. He was an active member in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, helping in the original construction of the church; a member of the Crusillo and a Knight of Columbus.
In the last years of his life, was afflicted by Parkinson’s disease but was continually assisted by his wife, daughter Sonia and CNA’s Valerie Hernandez and Magda Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Maria de Jesus Trevino; children Artie Jesse Trevino of Hawaii, Judy Ann Trevino Bartlett and husband Robert of The Woodlands, Texas, and Sonia Celina Trevino Ornelas and husband Ancelmo of Pearsall; and sister Clara M. Tamayo and husband of Pearsall; and by 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren,nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 4, at Trevino Royal Oaks Funeral Chapels from 6 to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment followed at the Pearsall Catholic Cemetery East.
