Athletic Director Lamar Rodriguez has been moved from his position into administrative leave by the Dilley ISD superintendent, who confirmed the decision Tuesday, October 13.
The school district’s athletic director and head football coach is the subject of an investigation, according to Supt. Emilio Castro, who said that Dilley ISD had been notified of “some concerns” that are being investigated this week.
Supt. Castro said on Tuesday that he was unwilling to give details of the investigation into the athletic director until he had addressed district trustees on the matter.
“I want to apprise the board of everything that we have found out,” the superintendent said. “This investigation does involve taking statements.”
Supt. Castro said on Tuesday that he was withholding any statement indicating whether a law enforcement agency has been involved in the investigation.
“We expect to have this wrapped up tomorrow,” the superintendent said.
The school district has confirmed that Jay Autrey has been named as the interim athletic director in Rodriguez’ absence. Autrey has been a Dilley ISD employee for more than 25 years.
Lamar Rodriguez is a native of Falfurrias and graduated from Odem High School in 1995. He earned a degree in all-level kinesiology from Texas A&M University at Kingsville in 2001 and served as a coach in Hebbronville, Rio Grande City, and Laredo’s Nixon, Cigarroa and Martin high schools before taking the job at Dilley on March 1, 2019.
