Pearsall dropped a pair of non-district basketball outings following the Thanksgiving break, dropping decisions to Pleasanton and Medina Valley on December 1 and 4.
The Lady Mavs were hampered by slow starts in both outings, as they fell 41-27 to the Lady Eagles and 59-21 to Medina Valley.
Pleasanton jumped out to a 9-2 first period lead but Pearsall rallied in the second and trailed 15-14 at intermission. The Lady Eagles then outscored the Lady Mavs 26-13 in the second half to secure the 14-point win.
“We are working on improving individual skills every day, raising our level of play for district against tough competition,” PHS Girls’ Basketball Coach Arlene Silva said. “We need to keep building our team for the long haul and keep trusting in the process.”
Sophia Garza led the team with 16 points, two steals, nine rebounds and a block while Alba Dominguez added four points, two steals, two assists and a rebound.
Emily Valle tallied three points, an assist, four steals and three rebounds while Loreli Reyes had two points and four rebounds and Marisa Berrelez tallied one assist, one steal and five rebounds.
Lauren Reed added two points, a steal and a rebound, Natalie Vega one assist, two steals and one rebound
and Nevaeh Ramon recorded one steal and two boards.
Another slow start and trouble scoring hurt Pearsall in their 38-point loss to Medina Valley.
The Lady Panthers rolled to a 16-4 first period lead and built it to 31-10 at the half.
Medina Valley then outscored Pearsall 28-11 in the second half to secure the lopsided win.
Garza paced the team once more, scoring six points while pulling down 12 rebounds. Dominguez and Ramon both scored four points in the loss. Dominguez added three steals and a rebound while Ramon also pulled down three boards.
Reyes added three points and five boards while Berrelez tallied three points, an assist, one steal and eight rebounds.
Pearsall will be on the road for two more games this week as they travelled to San Antonio McCollum Tuesday night and will be at SA Harlandale Friday evening. The team will then host SA Southwest Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
