Lady Mavs place five on all-district VB team; eight on academic squad
Pearsall placed five athletes on the District 30-4A all-district volleyball squad which is released upon the completion of each of the four playoff representatives’ season.
Hondo and Crystal City both advanced to the second round of the playoffs while Pearsall fell at bi-district to eventual regional semifinalist Devine.
Lady Mavs named to the all-district first-team included senior Alba Dominguez and sophomore Alyssa Garcia.
Second-team all-district selections included junior Karlina Rodriguez and sophomore Sophia Garza.
Senior Haley Neal received honorable mention.
Pearsall’s Lady Mavs also had eight athletes named to the 30-4A Academic All-District team. Honorees included Marisa Berrelez, Hallie Dugosh, Alyssa Garcia, Sophia Garza, Stormie Herrera, Haley Neal, Lorelei Reyes and Destiny Sanchez.
Pearsall competed in a revamped 30-4A, defeating Uvalde in a fourth place playoff to earn the final playoff spot in the league and earn a bi-district match against Devine.
During the UIL’s biennial realignment this year, Pearsall was placed into a five-team 30-4A with Hondo,
Uvalde, Carrizo Springs and
Crystal City.
Against a strong Devine squad, Pearsall took early leads in the first and third sets of their bi-district match but could not maintain the momentum, losing three straight sets. Devine won 25-14, 24-13, 25-14 to take the bi-district match.
