A San Antonio man is facing felony charges after attempting to flee from police in a stolen vehicle on Monday, December 28.
According to a report on the case, officers on routine patrol attempted to effect a traffic stop on a black Ford F150 when the driver, later identified as 26-year-old Juan Daniel Saldana, led the officers on a high-speed chase through a residential neighborhood.
The officer initiated the traffic stop at the intersection of South Chestnut and East Comal streets, but Saldana reportedly accelerated the pickup truck and failed to stop, thereby initiating the chase.
Saldana drove the truck through the a number of residential streets. Police noted in their report that he also drove off-road, through the Frio Apartments property.
As Saldana attempted to evade the officer, he drove though the alley between San Antonio and Comal streets. The man stopped the pickup truck and fled on foot to the south, police say.
A short time later, Frio County Constable Rudy Ortegon was able to detain Saldana on Bryan Street.
Saldana was transported to the Frio County Jail without further incident and charged with a state jail felony for unauthorized use of a vehicle and a third-degree felony for evading arrest with a motor vehicle.
