I’m in the mood for chocolate. Trouble is, the kids have eaten the last of it and it’s cold outside, so I’m not willing to leave the house right now. Instead, I give you a chocolate-laden recipe, because I feel like that’ll help my own craving somehow!
Provided by Gloria Tenery, as printed in the Cotulla Garden Club Community Cookbook, 2016:
3/4 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 cup flour
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup nuts, chopped (optional)
Blend melted butter, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Add eggs, beat well with a spoon. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add dry ingredients to egg mixture until well blended. Add in nuts, if desired. Spread in a greased 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350° for 40 to 45 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from edges of pan. Cool, cut into squares.
