Alvaro Corona, 20, was shot Friday and Saturday, investigators say
A Pearsall man has succumbed to injuries he sustained in the second of two gunfire assaults last weekend.
The Pearsall Police Department and the Texas Rangers have begun an investigation into the deadly shooting that took place in a residential neighborhood on Saturday, January 9.
Preliminary reports on the case indicate that officers heard the first of the two assaults when they were standing outside the Frio County Sheriff’s Office on Friday night and promptly drove to a site on the east side of the city. They learned that a 20-year-old man had been transported to Frio Regional Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.
Responding officers later identified the victim as Alvaro Corona.
Police say Corona had sustained a gunshot wound to his right shoulder blade and have indicated that the apparent shooting victim was uncooperative with officers investigating the assault.
Officers have stated that the information Corona gave investigators was inconsistent with evidence in the case, notably his gunshot injury.
Corona was shot dead the following day.
Officers were again dispatched to a scene on the east side of town Saturday and arrived to meet residents who reported having heard gunshots. During their investigation, the officers learned that a man had been seen lying beside the road on the other side of town. The subsequent investigation revealed that Corona had been gunned down a second time.
Officers arrived on Willow Street to find Corona with a weak pulse, according to a report on the case, and police provided first aid to the victim until paramedics arrived on scene. Corona died after being transported to Frio Regional Hospital with an apparent gunshot wound to his back.
Police are asking that anyone with information regarding the deadly incident contact investigators at (830) 334-4169.
