STATE REPRESENTATIVE REPORT
The 87th Legislative Session began Tuesday at noon on January 12, and leadership is working hard to put pandemic protocols in place to provide a safe working environment for members, staff and the public.
It has been anything but the typical pre-session run-up to session. I am working diligently with our local leaders to address the needs of District 80 and will continue those efforts during the legislative session.
This session legislators will be required to pass a balanced budget under very difficult fiscal constraints and to produce a redistricting plan for the Texas House, Texas Senate, State Board of Education and the U.S. House of Representatives.
Issues such as public education, health care, economic development and many others will be up for discussion also.
I’m committed to keeping the interests of the constituents a priority during this legislative session.
Local residents can be assured that we welcome their ideas and concerns and will continue to serve them in the Texas House of Representatives.
I represent House District 80 which includes Dimmit, Frio, Uvalde, Webb, Zapata and Zavala counties. I chair the powerful Licensing and Administrative Procedures Committee and am a member of the House Natural Resources Committee.
The legislature meets for 140 days and will adjourn on May 31.
