Positive COVID cases cause suspension of DISD basketball activities

Dilley ISD has suspended all basketball activities following several positive cases within the program this week.
“Due to a few positive cases in our basketball program which now requires us to quarantine both student-athletes and some coaches, we will be postponing our next few games and hoping to reschedule them,” DISD Superintendent Dr. Emilio Castro said. “We do ask all of our athletes to test weekly prior to competition and continue to follow all Covid-19 protocols as established.
“It is clear that when Covid-19 cases are identified, they are nearly always an exposure that has occured from the home or a social event not related to school events. To the greatest extent feasible and safe, we will continue to hold school open because we firmly believe our consistent monitoring of social distancing, mask wearing, hand-washing, sanitizing and disinfecting daily, and providing free Covid-19 tests at school, makes school as safe as possible for the safety of our students and staff.”
Dilley was slated to host district games against Karnes City and Jourdanton this week.
