Pearsall’s Lady Mavs continued their district slide last week, dropping a pair of contests to Hondo and Carrizo Springs as the team fell to 0-5 in the District 30-4A standings.
The Lady Mavs struggled in the first and fourth periods of a 53-34 loss to Hondo on January 29. The team fell behind 17-5 in the opening stanza and trailed 26-16 at intermission.
Hondo led 37-26 after three periods of play and outpointed Pearsall 15-8 in the fourth to pull away for the 18-point win.
Sophia Garza led the team with eight points, 15 rebounds and a block while Natalie Vega added eight points, nine rebounds, four assists and Loreli Reyes finished with eight points and four rebounds.
Marisa Berrelez also tallied eight points, four rebounds and two steals for Pearsall. Illiana Camacho scored two points but added two rebounds, three steals and an assist.
The team then dropped a narrow 40-35 decision to Carrizo Springs Friday evening.
Pearsall led early holding a 9-8 lead after the first and led 18-10 at halftime.
A big third quarter turned things for the Lady Wildcats as they outscored Pearsall 22-12 in the stanza and turned their eight-point deficit into a 32-30 lead going into the fourth.
Garza again paced the Lady Mavs, this time putting up 16 points, 12 rebounds and an assist. Berrelez finished with eight points, nine rebounds and a steal.
Vega added five points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal while Elizabeth Burrows tallied two points and a rebound and Esmer Gonzales had two points and an assist. Reyes finished with two points, seven rebounds and an assist for Pearsall.
The Lady Mavs were also without the services of their of their players in both outings.
Pearsall dipped to 0-5 in the standings and sit a game behind fourth place Carrizo Springs, who is 1-4. Crystal City is in first at 5-0 while Hondo is second at 4-1 and Uvalde is third at 2-3.
Pearsall has a single game remaining in their schedule, a February 6 remake against Uvalde of their January 22 game that was postponed.
