Five Cowgirls have earned regional qualifying lifts and the Cowgirls earned a slew of medals in winning the team title at the Cotulla Quad Powerlifting Meet on Thursday, February 4.
Cotulla played host to La Pryor, Dilley and Roma at the event.
“The Cowgirls have been working very hard during these trying times and are overcoming all the delays encountered due to the pandemic,” CHS Head Coach Lupe Hernandez said.
Danae Garcia, Jennifer Benavidez, Jenivae Rodriguez, Regina Seidel and Lillian Gonzalez have all posted lifts than rank them 12th or higher in the region.
Garcia’s 440-lb. total is sixth in the 97-lb. weight class, Benavidez posted a lift of 990 lbs. to sit second at 148 lbs. Her lift also ranks second in the state in that division.
Rodriguez is sixth with a total weight of 830 lbs. at 198 lbs., Seidel is first regionally at 220 lbs. with a lift of 960 lbs. She also sits third in the state with that total. Gonzalez’ lift of 835 lbs. puts her sixth regional at 259 lbs.
Kate Guzman, Trevlynn Aldaco, Jonessa Ramirez, Benavidez, Rodriguez, Seidel and Gonzalez all took first in their respective weight classes at the quad meet.
Garcia and Aaliyah Garcia were second at 97 lbs. and the 114-lb. weight class while Davira Gonzalez was third at 114 lbs. and Abygale Gonzalez was third at 198 lbs.
The Cowgirls will return to action on February 20 at Crystal City in the final qualifiers meet of the season. Cotulla’s Cowboys host host a meet this Thursday, February 11 at the high school field house.
