Selvera, Briseno medal at Natalia

Pearsall’s Sol Selvera and Brittney Briseno were second and third in powerlifting action at Natalia on Thursday evening, February 4.
“Several of the girls set new personal records in their lifts, as well as improving their overall total weight lifted,” PHS Head Coach Guadalupe Torres said. “These girls are working hard every morning and afternoon to try to earn a spot at the girls’ regional powerlifting meet in March.”
Selvera was second in the 97-lb. weight class with a total lift of 395 lbs. She posted lifts of 145 lbs. in the squat, 80 lbs. in the bench press and 170 lbs. in the deadlift.
Briseno was third in the 220-lb. weight class. She had a total lift of 860 lbs. Her lifts included 360 lbs. in the squat, 150 lbs. in the bench press and 350 lbs. in the deadlift.
Emily Valle and Llubia Rodriguez were both fourth in their respective weight classes at the event and Araceli Bocanegra was seventh.
Valle tallied a total weight of 570 lbs. in the 132-lb. division while Rodriguez had a total lift of 635 lbs. in the 181-lb. weight class. Bocanegra posted a total lift of 490 lbs. at 132 lbs.
The team will return to action on February 19 in Somerset. The Maverick powerlifters will be in Natalia on Thursday.
