Kelsi Eguia – Second Place – Cotulla Quad Meet
Dilley lifters medaled in action at Natalia and Cotulla recently as lifters aim to earn qualfiying bids for regional competition.
Kelsey Eguia was in action against 18 other athletes from Cotulla, La Pryor and Roma in a quad meet on February 4.
“Kelsey had personal bests on all of her lifts and placed second in her weight class,” DHS Head Coach Rene Maldonado said. “She continues to get stronger as she prepares to qualify for the regional meet.”
She posted lifts of 300 lbs. in the squat, 150 lbs. in the bench press and 280 lbs. in the deadlift in the 198-lb. weight class.
The Wolves were in action at Natalia on Thursday, February 11 in an event that included Natalia, San Antonio Southside, SA Southwest, Poteet, Hondo, Nixon-Smiley and Pearsall.
“Our athletes had several outstanding performances and we placed second overall as a team,” Coach Maldonado said.
Damian Rodriguez took first at 148 lbs. while Alex Alvarez was also first in the super heavyweight division.
Jhonathan Trevino, Carlos Gonzalez, Vicente Correa and Adrian Carrasco were all third in their respective divisions.
Rodriguez was third at 165 lbs., Gonzalez was third at 181 lbs., Correa took third at 198 lbs. and Carrasco was third at 242 lbs.
“Gabriel Tijerina and Lionel Martinez also had great efforts and improved their overall lift totals,” the coach said.
The team was scheduled to be at Somerset this Saturday. Regional competition is set for March 6 for the girls and March 11-13 for the boys.
