Following meets on February 11 and 20 and one meet remaining to earn regional qualifying bids, the Mavs and Lady Mavs have already secured a number of spots at the regional event in March.
In action at Natalia on February 11, the Mavericks took first overall as a team at the event.
“The boys did well, with many of them improving in their overall totals,” PHS Head Coach Guadalupe Torres said.
Kollin Meeks, Eden Fuentes, Ray Leal, Ricky Martinez, Devin Garza and Adrian Hernandez all took first, Ariel Hernandez was second and Brandon Rivas and Diego Carrasco were third.
In San Antonio on February 20 Alamar Garcia and Brittney Briseno took first, Sol Selvera was third, Meeks, Fuentes and Leal were first and Francisco Rivera was second.
“Despite the COVID restrictions and the crazy weather we had last week, our kids are going out and making a name for themselves,” Torres said. “I’m proud of the work they have put in and it’s all beginning to show in the rankings.
“As of today, (February 22) we will have three girls qualify for regionals and with one meet left for the boys, we already have six in with the top twelve of the region, so things look bright for our Pearsall Mavericks and Lady Mavericks.”
