DILLEY LADY WOLVES SOFTBALL

Dilley Softball Team & All-Tourney players
Dilley went 5-1 and finished second overall in action at the annual Lady Wolves softball tournament over the weekend.
The team got off to a quick start and raced to five straight wins to face Charlotte in the title game on Saturday. There the team finally cooled off. Charlotte scored seven runs in the second inning and rolled to a 9-0 victory to claim the tournament championship.

Faith Aranda & Kyrsten Ruiz
“We had a great tourney as we started off the first two days with dominant wins over La Pryor (14-1) and Falls City (13-1),” DHS Head Coach Daniel Autrey said. “We were also able to overcome rough starts to beat San Antonio Cole (6-5) as well as a sound Carrizo Springs team (6-3).
With a 4-0 record, Dilley rolled to the top seed in their pool and took on Falls City on Saturday for the right to advance to the title game.
“Faith Aranda did a great job pitching, striking out five batters and letting her defense take care of business,” Autrey said. “Kaydie Valdez and Zenestina Perez led the team in hits as well as with some key RBI’s.
With the win over Falls City, Dilley took on Charlotte for the championship but were shut out 9-0.
“Charlotte had a great second inning, putting up seven runs off a couple of errors,” the coach said. “We were just not able to get it going on offense with only had two hits.”
Aranda and Kyrsten Ruiz both earned all tournament honors for their efforts during the event.
Dilley will be in tournament action in Carrizo Springs this weekend. Dilley opens play on Thursday, March 4 against Hebbronville at 5:30 p.m.
