It is with great respect and with God’s love that I want to address the administering of the COVID vaccination that took place in our Frio County and it is directed at the people that did not make our Frio County residents their first priority. It came to our attention and to the attention of countless Frio County residents that the vaccine was administered to people from other counties, other states, and other countries before the residents of Frio County received theirs. The issue being addressed here is not that we want to be selfish and not vaccinate other people in need of this vaccine but that the residents of our county should be the first/main priority. According to first-hand knowledge, other “people’s concerns,” and research it has been brought to my and other people’s attention that there are some elderly people that have not been administered the vaccine because people from outside our county received it before them. An eighty-eight year old will get his on March 12 after endlessly trying to get his vaccine. Some people cannot and do not have access to the internet, so therefore cannot register. This needs to be addressed.
At times it is “who you know and/or who can have access” to the vaccine. Some people have had to “verbally fight and make countless calls” to get their vaccine. A Frio County resident had to go out of the county to get her vaccination, there have been many others.
Once more, I want to point out that this is not to keep other people from getting their vaccine. Everyone that wants the vaccine should be able to do so, but let’s take care of our own community, elderly, essential workers, school personnel, etc.
