Six Cowboys will advance to regional powerlifting competition this week after earning qualifying lifts during the season.
Alex Garcia at 123 lbs., Jacob Garcia at 148 lbs. Mike Flores in the 198-lb. Division, Eli Gonzalez at 220 lbs. Robert Sanchez at 242 lbs. and Kaleb Linares in the super heavyweight division will be competing this week in Bishop.
“The boys have had to overcome many obstacles from Covid to cancellations but have been resilient and have punched their ticket with a chance to advance to the state meet in Abilene,” CHS Head Coach Manuel Ramos said. “I am super proud of these young men who have been working their tails off to get back to the state meet.
“We had three kids advance last year that never got a chance to compete. This year we are just focused on what’s in front of us and not looking ahead. We don’t know what will happen next week or tomorrow, for that matter, but we do know that we got to make weight, go nine for nine and everything else will take care of itself.”
The Region V, Division 2 and 3 meet is Thursday, March 18 in Bishop.
