Family, friends host ‘Welcome Home’ parade for teen COVID survivor
Family members, friends and classmates line up along Oak St. in Pearsall Saturday afternoon, March 20 for a welcome home parade for (Left Photo) Pearsall Junior High School student Alina Valenzuela. The seventh grader returned home on Wednesday, March 17 following a lengthy bout with COVID-19. The Pearsall youth was hospitalized on January 10 after suffering complications from the disease. She went into cardiac
arrest and had three heart procedures, her kidneys were shutting down and she had her leg amputated due to a blood clot. Despite all her struggles, the teen ultimately recovered and was discharged last week. Following the parade, Valenzuela thanked first responders for their escort downtown and met with friends and family.
