CHOCOLATE CHIP MELTAWAYS
There’s something special about the smell of anything that includes chocolate chips baking in an oven. Maybe it’s my overactive sweet tooth, or maybe it’s nostalgia, but that smell can stop me in my tracks. Bake these and enjoy that smell… and maybe share some with a friend!
As printed in ‘Brush Country Cooking,’ compiled by the Cotulla-La Salle Chamber of Commerce, provided by Darlene T. Meyer:
1 cup butter
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 (12 oz) pkg chocolate morsels
Combine butter, vegetable oil, sugar, powdered sugar, and eggs in a large bowl; beat until smooth. Combine flour, soda, cream of tartar and salt; add to butter mixture. Beat until smooth; stir in vanilla and chocolate morsels. Shape into 1-inch balls; roll in sugar.
Place 2-inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet; bake at 375° for 10 to 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool cookies on wire rack. Yield: about 8 1/2 dozen.
