Cotulla jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back in claiming the school’s first softball playoff victory with a 12-5 thrashing of Yoakum at bi-district Saturday in Beeville.
The Cowgirls were in control throughout and led 9-3 at one point. The team will now take on Llano this Saturday, May 8 at 2 p.m. in Wimberley in an area round matchup.
After scoring six runs at the top of the first, Yoakum rallied with three runs at the bottom of the first to cut the margin to 6-3.
Cotulla would add two runs at the top of the second and another in the third to build a 9-3 advantage. After a scoreless fourth, Yoakum plated a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 9-5.
The Cowgirls would effectively end the game in the sixth with three more runs to increase the lead to 12-5. The defense then held in the seventh as Cotulla captured the bi-district championship.
Cotulla finished with 12 runs on eight hits and committed only two errors while Yoakum had five runs on six hits and committed three errors.
