A return to coaching at the school he carried to unprecedented new heights has given Marcus Booker a reason to smile again.
Cotulla ISD trustees unanimously voted to hire Booker as the school’s athletic director and head football coach last week and his first official day was Monday, May 3.
“The community seems to be excited,” the returning coach said. “I know I’m excited.”
As head coach of the Cowboys from 2002 to 2008, Booker became the program’s winningest coach with a 43-32 record and boasts half of the school’s total playoff appearances. He guided the team to playoff spots in five of his seven years. Cotulla has been to the playoffs ten times in school history.
Booker is most known for guiding the 2006 Cowboys team on a four-game, state semifinal playoff run, losing to eventual two-time state champion Tatum.
