The Moore Community Improvement Club is announcing that the inaugural Summerfest will be held on July 9-10.
The MCIC met on May 5 at the Moore Community Center to discuss the organization of the event which will include a BBQ Brisket Cookoff, team Cornhole Tournament, a silent auction, sausage plates for sale along with other goodies as well as select vendors.
MCIC representative Shelley Delgado said that barbecue contestants will set up for a night of cooking on July 9. Interested participants should call Jesse Carrasco at (210) 326-6320 or Shelley Delgado at (210) 889-9350 to sign up. There is a $35 entry fee and entrants will need to provide their own pit and brisket.
Brisket judging will be on July 10 and the MCIC will also be hosting a sausage plate sale with a pre-order price of $8 and $10 on the day of the sale, drinks will be sold separately.
Plates can be pre-ordered with Laura Dominguez at (210) 947-5629. Saturday’s events also include the Cornhole Tournament and other carnival games. Small prizes will be awarded for the ticketed games and cash prizes are offered for the tournament and cookoff. Another chance for prizes is available in the silent auction area.
The next MCIC planning meeting for the Summerfest committee is May 19 at 7 p.m. in the Moore Community Center. Anybody is welcome to join and volunteer.
“As much as the MCIC is taking time and effort to plan events, we are still hosting our food distribution service, the Moore Senior Box Program,” Delgado said. “We are still working with residents to get enrolled in this food distribution program for the elderly.
“We ask that you continue to spread the word so all qualified seniors can benefit from this program.” Anyone wishing to sign up can call (830) 931-1740 for information.
Additional food services are available through the Frio County commodities. Call (830) 931-1740 to be added to the list.
“Please note, distribution times vary,” Delgado said. “So add your name to the list to be included for notification of distributions.”
The next monthly meeting of the MCIC will be on June 2 at 7 p.m. at the Moore Community Center.
