A 49-year-old man was stabbed during an argument at an eastside neighborhood, shortly after midnight on Thursday, May 13, Pearsall police say.
According to a report on the case, responding officers arrived to find a man laying on the curb of Trinity Street with two knife-inflicted wounds.
Witnesses to the crime alleged they overheard the man engage in a heated verbal argument with another man who had been walking down the street.
Police say the witness heard the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Shawn Gallardo of Jourdanton, threaten the victim.
Gallardo was seen standing over the victim before he fled the scene in a car.
Emergency responders arrived to transport the victim to Frio Regional Hospital and learned he had suffered a stab wound to the left side of his stomach and the middle of his chest.
The Pearsall Police Department has issued a statement indicating that the investigation into the apparent assault is underway.
“We believe there may be two subjects who will face charges for this unnecessary crime,” Lt. Michael Guerrero said. “We have been diligently investigating the case and have interviewed seven individuals thus far.”
Arturo Ramos Martinez, 48, has also been identified by police as a person of interest in the case.
Investigators have indicated Gallardo and Martinez could face felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
