Dozens of households in Dilley have been waking up in the morning to find that a flock of pink plastic flamingos has landed in the yard, the birds happily posing on the lawn. Flamingo strikes have taken place at local homes, in front of businesses and even at school campuses (Photo above) during May. The “You’ve Been Flocked” campaign is a fundraiser by the Dilley Grey Wolf Band Boosters, helping to generate donations towards the students’ activities and a 2022 trip to Florida, where the band members will perform at Universal Studios and receive a demonstration and instruction in music recording and production, learn how music is incorporated into the entertainment industry, and make a concert recording of their own that will be added as a soundtrack to a film. According to band directors Terri Robertson and Calvin Goetsch, the teens are keen to learn how their skills may lead to productive careers. The fundraiser continues through June 20; local band supporters are able to “Flock a Friend” by making a reservation for a flamingo strike at any suitable site of their choosing through the Dilley Band Boosters public page on Facebook.
