A Pearsall man has allegedly admitted to luring his estranged wife into his home and assaulting her before holding her at gunpoint last Wednesday.
A report on the case says 73-year-old Manuel Martinez lured the woman into the home by claiming to need help with some appliances.
The woman arrived some six hours later and Martinez allegedly became irate and began to strangle her with a belt, then allegedly used a piece of rope and struck the woman repeatedly with a closed fist, according to police.
Police say Martinez then forced the woman onto the bed using a rifle.
“The victim was then able to calm Manuel down and she was able to leave the house,” the report reads.
Frio County Attorney Joseph Sindon issued an immediate protective order and Martinez was arrested Friday afternoon.
Martinez faces two felony charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and assault on a family member by impeding breath or circulation.
