The Moore Community Club met on June 17 at the Moore Community Center to further discuss the planning of its next community event, Summer Fest, scheduled for July 9-10.

The event will feature a barbecue cookoff on July 9 as contestants will set up for a night of cooking with a Chief Cook meeting to follow.

Anyone interested in participating in the BBQ Brisket cookoff can call Shelley Delgado at (210) 889-9350, Bobby Evans at (830) 355-7564 or Jesse Carrasco at (210) 326-6320. Entry paperwork and $75 fee can be turned in at the community enter on June 26 at 9 a.m. as the group preps the grounds for the event and hosts a sign-up party. Prospective participants are asked to enter early as the group will be capping the number of entries as space allows. The MCIC is also now offering Venmo as a way to pay.

Briskets will be judged on July 10 but the MCIC will be also be hosting its sausage plate sale. Pre-sale tickets are $8 and $10 on Saturday. Drinks will be sold separately. Pre-sale tickets can be purchase by calling Laura Dominguez at (210) 947-5629.

Additional activities include a cornhole tournament and small prizes for ticketed carnival games and cash prizes for the tournament and cook-off. Food and product vendors will also be on site. Those interested in setting up a booth can call Shelley or Laura. There is a $40 fee for vendors.

”We want to thank those who have already been so gracious and have been donating,” Delgado said of volunteers that have donated items for the event. “We are asking anyone who can donate to please do so. This donation can be in the form of supplies, funds, time or services.

The MCIC is still welcoming members for its Summer Fest committee and ask anyone with any ideas or questions to contact a club officer with inquiries. Volunteers wanting to help with ground preparations should be at the Moore Community Center on Saturday, June 26 at 9 a.m. with gloves, shovels, brooms, and a power washer.

The next monthly meeting is on Wednesday, July 7 at 7 p.m. at the Moore Community Center.

The next Senior Box Distribution is Monday, June 28. There will not be a distribution in July so boxes will be doubled up.

“We really want to thank all the volunteers who helped get the Frio County Pop Up Market set up for delivery to the families of Moore,” Delgado said.
