DILLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY NEWS
By Norma Herrera
Between June 14 and 30, students from the Mary Harper Middle School visited the library on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays to read for the young ones enrolled in the ‘Tails & Tales’ Summer Reading Program.
Students taking part in the program had filled out their applications and obtained library cards.
The Dilley ISD SRP Academy and the city of Dilley and public library partnered in the effort to bring reading resources to the students and encourage them to read for fun. All those who attended received a ‘Tails & Tales’ t-shirt for reading ten books, and we also distributed some awesome prizes.
On June 23, the MHMS students visited the library for a presentation by award-winning storyteller, actress and author Berndette Nason, who performs all over the world. Her multicultural folktales and personal stories are from the contrasting lifestyles of the places where she has lived, including England, Africa, Arabia and America. We had 40 students and 12 visitors in the convention center for the occasion. They were joined by staff, visitors, teachers and Mayor Gilbert Eguia.
