HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Pearsall, Dilley square off in volleyball opener; tournament action commences this weekend.
After a year without tournaments and a delayed start, local schools are hitting the hardcourt this week for the start of the 2021 volleyball season.
Pearsall’s Lady Mavs will look to build around a playoff season a year ago. The team topped Uvalde in a fourth place playoff and took on Devine in a bi-district matchup, their first in three years.
The Lady Mavs were slated to open the season Tuesday at home against Dilley.
Pearsall will return to action on August 13-14 at the Harlandale Tournament. They will then be on the road at Jourdanton on August 17.
Pearsall won’t return home until August 24 when they host Pieper High School.
Dilley missed the postseason a year ago following a playoff appearance in 2019.
Following its season opener at Pearsall, the Lady Wolves will participate in the Natalia Tournament August 13-14 and be at Charlotte on Tuesday, August 17.
Dilley will return home Friday, August 20 as they host Carrizo Springs.
Cotulla snapped its six-year playoff run after missing out on a postseason berth in 2020’s pandemic-shortened season.
The Cowgirls also kicked off the season Tuesday night as they hosted Crystal City in the 2021 opener. Cotulla will be in tournament action this weekend at the Laredo St. Augustine Tourney. The team will then be in Crystal City on August 17 for a dual match with the Lady Javelinas and Brackettville.
The team will be on the road until a Tuesday, September 7 contest against San Antonio West Campus.
