Elderly homeowner unaware of plant in back yard…
Dilley police officers seized a six-foot tall marijuana plant from a backyard on the city’s northeast side of town on Sunday, August 22.
Police say the department became aware of the illegal plant after an anonymous tip from a concerned citizen.
Once aware of the illegal plant, officers requested the assistance of the Frio County Sheriff’s department and their drug-detecting canine, Jax.
“It appears the elderly man was unaware the plant was even growing in his backyard,” Dilley Police Sgt. Adrian Ruiz said.
No criminal charges have been filed at this time but the incident remains under investigation.
“The safety of our residents of Dilley is our priority,” Ruiz said. “Especially our children. All agencies will continue to deter and dismantle illegal operations to ensure the safety of the community.”
