Pearsall tops Dilley to claim tourney’s consolation championship.
Pearsall, Dilley and Cotulla were all in attendance at the annual Lady Maverick Volleyball Invitational Tournament on Thursday and Saturday, August 26 and 28 with the Lady Mavs earning the consolation title at the event.
The Lady Mavs and Lady Wolves were both 2-4 at the event but Pearsall won the consolation title match between the two on Saturday.
“We’re improving every day and working hard in every match we compete in,” PHS Head Coach Erica Tellez said.
Cotulla competed in action on Thursday but did not return to compete on Saturday.
The Lady Mavs opened against Randolph and dropped a 12-25, 19-25 decision. They then took on Southwest Legacy and fell in a back-and-forth affair, 23-25, 21-25. Pearsall closed out action on Thursday by topping Cotulla 25-23, 25-17.
The team split outings on Saturday, falling to Pleasanton 10-25, 10-25 before topping Dilley 25-17, 25-18.
“The girls are really trying to come together and be able to play as one,” DHS Head Coach Khloe Torres said. “We have gone through some obstacles and battles that will only make us stronger. We will fight together as we come to the very long road of district.”
South San topped Southwest Legacy for third place while Pleasanton edged past Randolph to claim the tournament championship.
