Chief Torralba credits investigator with tenacity, willingness to work
Pearsall Police Lieutenant Michael Guerrero has been named Officer of the Year for 2020, earning him the highest honors in the department.
Guerrero, who began his career with the Pearsall PD in 2007, has worked his way up the ranks from patrol officer to lieutenant of criminal investigations.
Chief Humberto Torralba II presented Guerrero with a plaque in recognition of the honor on August 6.
“A vote of Guerrero’s peers determined the award,” the police chief said. “It is a very special recognition when members of the police department choose you and you are voted on by all force staff.”
Torralba said the police lieutenant has proven to be an example for the entire police department, never seeking the spotlight or glory and being willing and ready to help all fellow officers.
Guerrero commands the criminal investigations division and leads his squad in a team approach.
“They work together every day to accomplish what needs to get done,” the police chief said. “The caliber of work speaks for itself. The award is well deserved and a testament to Lt. Guerrero’s excellence to the department and the community he serves. He is a tenacious officer, he does not shirk duty and he is not afraid to go out and work.”
The award was established in 2018 to recognize the outstanding achievement of officers and honors those who work tirelessly every day to make the community safer, according to the police department in its prepared statement.
