Jourdanton sends Cotulla to fourth straight loss of the 2021 season.
Cotulla’s losing skid hit four straight games this week following a 39-16 loss to Jourdanton in the District 14-3A, Division I opener last Friday at Myers Memorial Stadium.
The contest was within striking distance for the Cowboys in the early going as the defense kept things close in the first half but the Indians were able to break things open in the third with a 19-point outburst.
Jourdanton scored in the first to take a 6-0 lead and added a score in the second to grab a 14-0 halftime advantage.
Cotulla finally cracked the scoreboard in the third but Jourdanton hit paydirt three times in the stanza to build a 33-8 advantage going into the fourth. The Cowboys also scored in the fourth as the Indians ran away with a 39-16 decision.
Senior Michael Flores led the defensive effort for the Cowboys as he recorded 14 total sacks, including five solo with a sack and two hurries.
Aydan Martinez added ten total tackles while Eric Aldaco had nine tackles and freshman Gerardo Gonzalez also recorded eight total tackles.
Cotulla drops to 1-4 this season and 0-1 in league play while Jourdanton improved to 2-3 for the year and 1-0 in district. Marion and Poteet both also improved to 1-0 in league play this week while Lytle and San Antonio Cole both dropped to 0-1. Universal City Randolph opens league play this week.
The Cowboys will have a chance to regroup this week as they enter their off week. The team will then be at Marion on Friday, October 8.
