County officials commemorated the opening of a 50-year time capsule that was buried during the Frio centennial in 1971 with a ceremony on Saturday, October 16 at Fireman’s Park in Pearsall.
Hundreds were in attendance, including family and friends of those who purchased items to place in the capsule 50 years ago.
Local and area officials spoke during the event that provided a brief history of the county and summary of the week-long celebration of events that culminated in the capsule burial in the county courthouse lawn in 1971.
The contents of the capsule were distributed to family and friends, many of them descendants of the 1971 contributors.
