DISTRICT 14-3A, DIVISION I
San Antonio Cole scored twice in the first half and twice in the fourth quarter to outrun Cotulla 34-14 last Friday and send the Cowboys to their eighth straight loss.
Having been eliminated from playoff contention, the Cowboys will end their season this Friday as they visit the winless Lytle Pirates.
Lytle has not only not won a game this season but have only scored 33 points all season while surrending just over 45 points per game. Cotulla will be looking to end the year on a high note as they look for a win over the Pirates this week.
“Against Cole, it was all the little things that kept getting us,” CHS AD and Head Football Coach Marcus Booker said. “Hiliberto Soto and Thallan Olivarri played well for us.
“I want to commend the kids on what has been a very taxing season, not only have they had to deal with the day-to-day stresses of life, but having to deal with their head coach having a stroke to start the season but they have fought hard every game and I am very proud to be their coach.
“They also had to deal with my first assistant having a mild stroke last week and they kids just keep playing their hearts out for Cotulla,” Booker said. “I would like to apologize to the town of Cotulla and my football team for getting sick and putting a bad taste in everyone’s mouths this season. I will be back stronger next year for better things to happen.”
Cole went up 7-0 in the first quarter and held a 13-7 halftime lead.
The Cowboys trailed 20-7 after three quarters of play and were then outscored 14-7 in the fourth as the Cougars held on for the 34-14 win.
Game time for Friday’s game at Lytle is slated for 7:30 p.m.
