REGION IV CLASS 3A CC MEET
Chloe Rodriguez narrowly missed out on a state qualifying berth, missing the cut by a single place following regional competition in Corpus Christi on Monday, October 25.
Rodriguez, a sophomore, was 19th overall in the girls’ division but with the top four teams and top ten individuals not on a qualifying team advancing, she moved up eight spots to 11th overall at a time of 13:34, just missing the top ten qualifying mark for state.
“She ran in a tough field of competitors (179 total) and the tough TAMUCC Texas A&M-Corpus Christi course, and she was able to drop her time from the previous meet there by over thirty seconds,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said. “She proved that she’s state caliber material and ran tough when it counted, but just came up short.”
Sophomore Anthony Guerra led the Wolves and was 19th in the boys’ division. Among top ten finishers not on qualifying teams, Guerra finished 14th out of 169 runners, missing out on qualifying for state by three places.
“He shows promise as just a young sophomore and will be back next season ready,” Coach Flores said. “It was a great experience for all of our runners as it was their first regional experience except for one of them.
“Injuries and inexperience kept us from having a full team all season up until district and they will all be back next season minus Edgardo Ramos, and we will be stronger, faster, more mature and ready to go. I feel it was a great season nonetheless, and am very proud of them.
“We are getting so close to punching a ticket back to the state meet, we will set the tone and come back with more fire power next season.”
Dilley varsity boys’ results are as follows: Anthony Guerra, 19th, 18:16, Edgardo Ramos, 52nd, 19:28, Xavier Hernandez, 71st, 20:11, Pavlo Reyes, 110th, 21:20, Abraham Rodriguez, 136th, 22:41 and Amos Osio, 162nd, 26:06.
