With a pair of non-district losses on Friday and Monday morning, Pearsall’s Lady Mavs dropped to 1-7 for the season after falling to Natalia and Somerset.
Pearsall dropped a 50-35 decision to the Lady Mustangs after a low scoring third turned the momentum in the contest. Somerset was strong out of the gates and held the Lady Mavs to seven first half points en route to a 74-19 win in that contest.
Natalia jumped out to a 16-9 first period lead in Friday’s contest. Pearsall kept the game close in the second and trailed 29-21 at intermission. The Lady Mustangs turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, outscoring Pearsall 21-14 to secure the 15-point victory.
Somerset, regional quarterfinalists a year ago, showed that playoff form as they led from start to finish on Monday, November 22. They led 19-3 after the first and after posting 26 points in the second held a 45-7 lead at intermission. Somerset outscored Pearsall 29-12 in the second half en route to the 55-point victory.
Pearsall’s tough non-district slate continued as they were at San Antonio Cole Tuesday. The Lady Cougars were also regional quarterfinalists in the 3A playoffs last season. The Lady Mavs will then host Pleasanton on November 30.
