Maureen Diane Phelps, 81, of Encinal, died on November 11, 2021, of cancer. She was born in San Antonio on May 9, 1940 to John Nieschwietz and Edna Swize Nieschwietz.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her nephew Alan Nieschwietz.

Maureen is survived by her husband Robert James Phelps, sister Sandra Muenchow and brother John and wife Nancy Nieschwietz, nephews Trey and Ryan and great niece Callie Nieschwietz.

Diane graduated from Incarnate Word College (UIW). She spent the next 35 years teaching at Riverside Park Elementary in San Antonio where she would retire. She and her husband then moved to Encinal where on their property they would begin raising cattle and gardening. Diane was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and sewing.

Visitation was held on Friday, November 19 at Peters Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 20, at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment followed at the Encinal Cemetery

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Peters Funeral Home, Cotulla.
