Pearsall tops Cotulla, La Pryor to improve to 3-0 for the year.
Pearsall crushed Cotulla and La Pryor in non-district action earlier this week to improve to 3-0 for the year behind a balanced scoring effort and strong defensive pressure.
The Mavericks overcame a slow start and had a big second period en route to a 61-36 decision over the Cowboys on Friday, November 19. They then rolled out of the gates in their highest scoring contest of the short season as they rolled the Bulldogs 87-18.
In the win over Cotulla, Pearsall overcame a slow offensive start that saw them take a 9-6 lead in the first. They then broke the game open with a run in the second.
They outscored the Cowboys 25-10 in the stanza to build a 34-16 halftime advantage.
Pearsall then cruised in the second half as they outpointed Cotulla 15-10 in the third to increase the lead to 49-26. The fourth was played largely on even terms as the Mavericks took the 25-point victory.
In a quick turnaround, Pearsall hit the court on Monday morning, November 22 and routed the La Pryor Bulldogs 87-18 for their third win of the season.
Pearsall scored 20 or more points in each of the first three quarters to build a huge lead going into the final stanza.
David “Bear” Rendon led the way with 22 points while Marco Camacho added 16 points. Devin Garza finished with 12 points while Chris Garza and Julian Baez both had 10 points apiece.
Leon Martinez tallied nine points and Nicholas Martinez posted four points for Pearsall.
The team was slated to host Holy Cross Friday night, November 26 but that game was cancelled. Pearsall will host Devine on Tuesday, November 30 and then be at the Poteet tournament the weekend of December 2-4.
