The Moore Community Improvement Club will host a toy drive for the Moore Country Christmas event on Saturday, December 11 at the Moore Community Center.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and anyone wishing to drop off toys for the event are encouraged to attend. Early decorating for the Country Christmas is on hold but the group will be cleaning up around the outside of the community center that day. The lighting contest sign up event will also be held that day.
Registration for the second annual MCIC ‘Be the Light’ holiday decorating contest begins December 1 and runs through December 15. There will be a $10 fee per entry. Cash prizes will be awarded for the top three winners. Judging will be held December 19 and 21. Sign up forms are available from every MCIC officer as well as from Laura Dominguez at The Lil Shack. Additional information is also available at the MCIC Facebook group.
The Moore Country Christmas event, co-sponsored by the MCIC and Frio County Sheriff’s Office will be on Saturday, December 18 at the Moore Community Center from 3 to 9 p.m.
There will be a cookie contest open to all amateur bakers with no entry fee required. Entries are to be submitted to the community center no later than 4 p.m. on December 18. No sign up is required. A minimum of thre dozen cookies should be submitted in a covered container. Cookies will be judged on presentation, taste/texture and consistency. Winners will be announced by 5:30 p.m. Cash prizes of $100 for first place, $75 for second place and $25 for third place will be awarded thanks to donations that were made to the club.
A tamale contest has been added to the festivities. Anyone interesting in participating must sign up by December 15. There is no entry fee and a dozen tamales are required to enter the contest. They will be judged and cash prizes awarded to the top three picks. To enter, call Laura Dominquez at (210) 947-5629.
The deadline for vendors to sign up is Friday, December 10. Vendor spots include a 10 x 10 area for $25. Call Laura Dominquez at (210) 947-5629 or Shelley Delgado at (210) 889-9350 to reserve a spot.
There is still time to rent the community center this holiday season for parties or gatherings. Call Claudia at (830) 267-0322 to reserve a date and put down a deposit.
The MCIC is also currently planning something for local seniors. There will be a meal and gifts for those who sign up. A dinner is planned for December 19 and a gift will be provided for Moore seniors. Event planners are looking for donations and senior angels to assist with the event. Anyone interested in donating to local senior citizens can call Laura Dominquez by December 14.
Commodities will be distributed Monday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. at the Moore Community Center. They are limited to two families per household and two families per vehicle. Call Claudia or Rosa for information.
