Irene Hernandez Guajardo, 74, of Lumberton, died on January 19, 2022. She was born in Pearsall to parents Genaro Hernandez Sr. and Trinidad Rodriguez.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe Guajardo of Lumberton, daughters Alveza (Andy) Todd of New Kent, Virginia, Amanda Guajardo of Lumberton, sons Jose Guajardo of Ringo, Georgia, John (Kim) Guajardo of Brooklyn, brothers Nacho (Rosa) Hernandez of Pearsall, Sonny (Maria) Hernandez of Oklahoma, Juan (Angie) Hernandez of Pearsall, sisters Flora Garcia of San Antonio, Gloria Rodriguez, Maria Hernandez, both of Pearsall, Caroline Hernandez of San Antonio, grandchildren Luke and Corey Todd, Chase and Elena Guajardo, Haily and Arabella Guajardo and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Raelynn Craft.
She married Jose in 1963 and they had three children before relocating to Lumberton in 1971. She worked for Bass Pecan Company for seventeen years. In 1979, she had her fourth child before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking, especially her tamales, listening to music and spending time outdoors.
A mass of Christian burial was held on Monday January 24 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Lumberton. Interment followed at Our Lady of Perpetual Catholic Church.
Visitation was from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, January 23 at Purvis Chapel of Moore Funeral Home.
