Pearsall will play host to the annual Edye Lea Relays this Saturday, March 26 at Mack Laxson Field.
Formerly the Maverick Relays, the event name was changed several years ago to honor popular former Lady Mavs’ track coach Edye Lea.
Eight teams will be in contention for team titles at the event this year and include San Antonio Lanier, San Antonio Antonian, the Del Rio junior varsity track team, Poteet, Devine, Carrizo Springs, Dilley and Pearsall.
The Lady Mavs were co-champs of the event last season while the Mavericks finished second overall. The teams were also second and third overall in 2020.
Both Pearsall squads are coming off an impressive performance at the Wolf Pack Relays in Dilley just prior to the Spring Break holiday. Both earned team championships at the event.
The Edye Lea Relays are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. with field events and the 3,200m run.
