DISTRICT 30-4A SOFTBALL
Pearsall notched a 5-3 win over Carrizo Springs, claiming the District 30-4A softball opener on Friday, March 25.
The win puts the Lady Mavs at 25-2 for the year and 1-0 in league play. The team also moved up the Texas Girls Coaches Association state rankings, moving to third in Class 4A.
“The girls are playing really well right now,” PHS Head Coach Reynaldo Ramirez said. “I am so proud of them.”
Prior to knocking off the Lady Wildcats, Pearsall took down Gonzales 10-0 and San Antonio Holy Cross 5-1 in a doubleheader on March 15.
The Lady Mavs then returned from Spring Break with another lopsided win, this time taking down D’Hanis 12-2 on March 21.
“D’Hanis got on the board in the first inning, scoring one run,” Coach Ramirez said. “We pulled away for good with four runs in the second inning.”
Ebony Garza tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run and Kristen Morales singled on the first pitch of her at-bat, scoring a run.
Pearsall notched five runs in the fourth inning and were led by Layla Del Toro, Sophie Garza, Ceara Saenz, Alyssa Garcia and Morales, who all drove in runs.
“We saw the ball well, racking up 15 hits in the game,” Ramirez said. “Ebony, Maddie Bradley, Ceara, Alyssa and Kristen all managed multiple hits for us while Bradley and Ebony each collected three hits to lead the way.”
Pearsall was at Crystal City Tuesday evening in a late game and will return home on Friday to host Cuero in a non-district outing.
