Local man jailed for threatening driver
A Dilley man is behind bars on felony charges of deadly conduct after he allegedly brandished a knife at the scene of an accident in which his friend was killed and his brother critically injured early Sunday, March 27.
The police department is reporting that a freight truck was turning into a gas station on FM 117 at the outskirts of Dilley and struck a recreational all-terrain vehicle, killing 30-year-old Simon Canales and critically injuring 35-year-old Jacob Torres. Torres was airlifted to San Antonio Medical Center. There have been no reports on his condition as of presstime.
A preliminary report on the case indicates the driver of the truck did not see the recreational vehicle because it was not properly illuminated.
It is also unknown who was driving, according to police.
According to investigating officers, Jason Torres, brother of the injured Jacob Torres, went to the gas station with a knife and began threatening the driver of the 18-wheel freight truck and others at the scene.
Jason Torres was arrested on three felony counts and was transported to the Frio County Jail without further incident.
