Dorothy Mangum Kinsel has been named the Volunteer of the Year for the 2022 Jefferson Awards co-sponsored by the Laredo Area Community Foundation (LACF) and the Laredo Morning Times during the annual banquet on March 31.
Dorothy, one of twelve nominees representing Laredo Area nonprofit organizations, was nominated by the Woman’s Club of Cotulla. The award was presented on March 31 at the LACF Volunteer Award Banquet which honors the spirit of volunteerism in the Laredo Area.
As the Jefferson Award recipient for the Laredo Area, Dorothy will have the opportunity to travel to Indianapolis, Indiana in June to represent Laredo-Webb County at the National Jefferson Awards Ceremony. She will then be honored along with hundreds of other Jefferson Award winners from across the country.
A unique facet of the event in addition to recognizing the Unsung Heroes of Laredo is that the LACF honors the nominating nonprofit with an honorarium of $1,500.00.
The Jefferson Award was established in 1972 by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis to serve as an equivalent to the Nobel Prize for public service in America. Since its inception, more than 50,000 “unsung heroes” from across America have received Jefferson Awards in their own communities.
