The Frio County Sheriff’s Office will receive body-worn cameras for deputies after being awarded $14,000 in grant funding late last month.
Frio County Chief Deputy Peter Salinas applied for the $14,416 grant in order to provide deputies with the necessary equipment.
“Body cameras have been found to hold deputies accountable for their actions in the field and allow evidence of crime to be collected as the deputies saw it that day,” Salinas said.
The grant will allow the department to take some financial burden off taxpayers, according to the chief deputy, and will cover data storage and equip 21 deputies with body cameras.
Since January 2021, the department has applied for and received nearly $1.5 million in grant funding.
