RANDOLPH PRE-DISTRICT TRACK MEET @UNIVERSAL CITY
Despite traveling with only a handful of athletes due to school testing, Pearsall’s Mavs finished fifth overall at the Randolph Pre-District Meet in Universal City last Thursday, April 7.
The host Ro-Hawks swept the entire event, winning each of the four divisions, both varsity and junior varsity.
Pearsall tallied 47 points to finish ahead of rivals Hondo and Crystal City at the meet.
The Lady Mavs were eighth in a field of ten teams with 30 points.
Gavino Gutierrez and Jose Ramirez captured gold for Pearsall as Gutierrez won the discus and Ramirez took first in the long jump. Weston Hurst was second in the pole vault and Joseph De La Rosa was second in the shot put. Ramirez also finished third in the triple jump.
Esmer Gonzales won the pole vault for the Lady Mavs, taking gold in that event while Jezzie Leal had her streak of five straight first place finishes in the high jump snapped. She technically tied for first with a height of 5′ but was second in the standings based on a tiebreaker. Ebony Garza also finished third in the 100m dash.

Pearsall was in action at the District 30-4A meet in Uvalde on Wednesday and Thursday, April 13 and 14 in Uvalde.
