DISTRICT 27-3A TRACK MEET
Thirteen Dilley athletes have qualified for area competition following action at the District 27-3A track meet Tuesday and Wednesday, April 12 and 13 at Jourdanton’s Indian Stadium.
Dorian Aranda and Dakota San Miguel were crowned district champions in the triple jump and shot put, respectively while Aranda was also a runner-up in the long jump, 100m and 200m dashes.
Gabe Tijerina was a runner-up in the shot put and Janae Galindo and Chloe Rodriguez were runners-up in the shot put and 400m dash.
“It was a great job and effort from all the student athletes,” DHS Head Coach Victor Flores said.
Area qualifiers include Aranda, Tijerina, the boys’ 800m relay team of Aiden Gonzalez, Chris Medrano, Bubba Reyes, and Dorian Aranda and mile relay team of Abraham Rodriguez, Jacob Lopez, Edgardo Ramos, and Esai Lozano, San Miguel, Galindo and Rodriguez.
Freshman San Miguel was also fifth in the discus while the Lady Wolves’ 400m relay team of Zeny Perez, Blanca Muniz, Reyna Martel, Jenasys Flores was fifth.
The Dilley girls’ 800m relay team of Mia Aranda, Zeny Perez, Blanca Muniz and Reyna Martel was also fifth overall.
The top four finishers in each event qualify for area competition. Fifth place finishers advance as alternates and will compete if any of the top four qualifiers cannot compete at area.
The area track meet opened in Columbus on Wednesday, April 20. Qualifying athletes from Districts 28-3A and 27-3A will compete at the event.
