DISTRICT 27-3A TRACK MEET
Cotulla will send 12 athletes to the area track meet this week following competition at the District 27-3A meet in Jourdanton April 12 and 13.
The Cowboys had six athletes earn area bids while the Cowgirls will also send six qualifying athletes. The Cowboys were also fifth overall in the boys’ division.
Cesar Maldonado, Alejandro Medina, Jose Gonzalez, Robert Sanchez, Jacob Garcia, Joseph Salazar will advance for the Cowboys while Raeann Charo, Brianna Wilson, Mia Garcia, Jasmine De La Garza, Aubrianna Cantu and Kayli Galindo are advancing for the Cowgirls.
“The boys did a great job competing in scorching temperatures both days,” CHS Boys Track Coach Esteban Rodriguez said.
“The Cowgirls competed very well on both levels and we’re looking forward to next year and to the next level for the varsity members advancing to Area,” CHS Girls Track Coach Susan Garcia said.
Cotulla has district champions in five events as Jacob Garcia took first in the pole vault, Raeann Charo won in the long jump, 100m and 200m dash. Brianna Wilson was also district champ in the discus.
Mia Garcia and Jasmine De La Garza were third and fourth, respectively, in the pole vault. Aubrianna Cantu finished third in the 200m dash and Kayli Galindo was fourth in the 300m hurdles. Jewlissa Cordova also placed at the district meet as she was sixth in the shot put.
Boys’ results are as follows: 200m dash, Jose Gonzalez, third, 23.28; 300m hurdles, Cesar Maldonado, second, 44.21; 400m dash, Alejandro Medina, second, 54.31; long jump, Jose Gonzalez, fourth, 19’10-¼”; triple jump, Jose Gonzalez, fifth, 39’¼”; shot put, Robert Sanchez, third, 43’2”; discus, Robert Sanchez, second, 119’5-¾”; pole vault, Jacob Garcia, first, 10’6”, Joseph Salazar, third, 8’; 400m relay, fifth, Alejandro Medina, Bryan Martinez, Jesus Partida, Jose Gonzalez; 800m run, seventh, Bryan Martinez, Joseph Salazar, Jesus Sanchez, Jesus Partida; 1,600m relay, fifth, Cesar Maldonado, Alejandro Medina, Jose Gonzalez, Thallan Olivarri.
In junior varsity action, Cotulla finished second overall.
Isabela Gonzales was third in the 800m and 1,600m run; Ivorie Romero was fourth in the high jump and sixth in the 200m dash; Raeanna Galindo took second in the 400m dash, third in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump.
Nayeli Flores was third in the 400m dash, Alexis Rodriguez was fifth in the 400m, Kate Guzman finished second in the pole vault, fourth in the 100m hurdles and was fifth in the 300m hurdles. Josefina Garcia came in fifth in the 100m hurdles, Yasmin Avina was fifth in the long jump, Izabella Carrizales place fifth in the shot put, Sedelia Wilson was second in the discus and Reanne Sanchez was fifth in the triple jump.
The Cotulla JV’s 800m relay team of Raeanna Galindo, Yasmin Avina, Reanne Sanchez and Ivorie Romero was second while the 1,600m relay team of Alexis Rodriguez, Nayeli Flores, Sedalia Wilson and Raeanna Galindo was also second.
The boys’ JV team was seventh overall. Results are as follows: 800m run, Jayanjru Ramirez, fifth, 2:21.44, David Garcia, sixth, 2:25.86; 110m hurdles, Dylan Martinez, sixth, 22.20; 300m hurdles, Jayanjru Ramirez, fifth, 51.40; shot put, Gerardo Gonzalez, fourth, 32’6”; triple jump, Marcos Lopez, sixth, 33’8”; pole vault, Jayanjru Ramirez, third, 7’6”; 400m relay, seventh, Omar De Leon, Oscar Charo, David Gonzalez, Hilario Ayala; 800m relay, seventh, Omar De Leon, David Gonzalez, Hilario Ayala, Isaac Cerda; 1,600m relay, fifth, Marcos Lopez, Oscar Charo, Omar De Leon, Jayanjru Ramirez.
Action at the area meet started on Wednesday, April 20 in Columbus. Results will be available in the next issue of this newspaper.
