DISTRICT 30-4A BASEBALL & SOFTBALL
Pearsall’s Lady Mavs needs a win to clinch at least a share of the district softball title while the Mavericks have three games remaining to stay atop the standings in the baseball race in action on the the diamond this week.
Both teams returned to action this week following the Easter break and hosted Uvalde Tuesday evening in a pair of league outings.
The Lady Mavs took on Uvalde in their district finale Tuesday evening and needed a win and a Carrizo Springs loss at home to Crystal City to earn the league title outright. A win by both would force a first place playoff. Crystal City is winless in district play this season.
“We are banged up, but we will be fine,” PHS AD and Head Football Coach Reynaldo Ramirez said. “We just need to play our game and we should be alright.
“We have had a couple of great practices and we seem to be refocused. The girls will be ready.”
The Mavericks, 2-1 in league play and currently in a three-way tie for first place, hosted Uvalde Tuesday evening in a contest that will break up the first place logjam. Crystal City took on winless Carrizo Springs on Tuesday.
“I think we have a great opportunity tonight, Uvalde is tough team but if we play the way we are capable of playing I like our chances as well,” PHS Head Baseball Coach Ray Talamantes said. “It’s a special night tonight for our seniors as well.
“It’s our last regular season home game for these guys. I hope we can go out and finish this season off right with them.”
Pearsall will then close out the regular season at Carrizo Springs on Friday and at Crystal City Tuesday, April 26 in a game that will likely decide final seeding among the top three teams.
As of presstime, a district playoff date had not been set up between Pearsall and Carrizo Springs.
