Pearsall Mayor Ben Briscoe is reminding local residents that there will be a mock train derailment drill involving emergency responders, county and city personnel, Union Pacific and AEP representatives on Thursday, April 28.
The event will be held along the railroad tracks on Trinity St.
“We cannot predict what the next disaster is but the key point is that people are working together,” the mayor said.
Emergency preparedness has been a point of contention for government and municipalities, especially on the heels of last February’s freeze and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Briscoe said the city has not neglected to prepare for another emergency at a town hall meeting prior to this event and the mock disaster is one example of that.
